Not cracked it

Intro

Today’s plan was to see if I had really cracked it with the chopped worm. The short answer is “no”, it was a very patchy day. I decided to try peg 5.

Busy pond

I have never seen so many pleasure anglers on the lake. The air pressure was high and the weather was quite warm and bright. There was a also a very good angler on the opposite bank. When I was catching the odd fish, he was catching very consistently, a fish every few seconds or so it seemed. It turns out that he had about 20lb by lunchtime but his bites also dried up at that time.

Tweaks

I had decided to try adding groundbait (inc chopped worm) a lot ore frequently. I was also going to alternate with the method feeder over to the island as I had 2 Carp and a Tench the last time I fished to the island. I was also going to employ the bait switching more frequently when worm baits dried up.

Poor day

By the end of the day I only managed about 20 fish. I did not get any bites on the feeder. However, I noticed yet again that most of my bites came when I had twitched the float past the area of feed so it did look repeatable and may mean that I have often been fishing just too far without the accurate knowledge obtained by feeding via the pole cup.

A possible alternate approach

I decided to fish into the evening to see if I could pick up a late Bream or Carp. This did not work out but another angler arrived about 4:30 to fish the evening on the method feeder. He was fishing into open water and not to any visible feature. After the first hour he started to get fairly regular nice fish. He was kind enough to explain that he was using Robin Red hard pellets. There had been others fishing the method feeder during the day to no avail so I wondered if it was the bait of time of day that was the key.
